SANDESTIN, Fla.. - Piedmont women's golf held steady as second round play concluded at the Golfweek October Classic on Monday afternoon in Sandestin, Florida.
Despite falling one spot on the team leaderboard into 11th place, the Lions improved their overall team score by five strokes from Sunday's opening round.
Erin Donovan is hovering in contention on the individual leaderboard, sitting just four shots behind the individual leader with 18 holes to go. After opening with a 1-over 73 on Sunday, the Southaven, Mississippi native was solid again, carding a 2-over 74 in a round that included 14 pars and nothing worse than a bogey.
The rest of the Lions stepped up as well on Monday, with junior
Keegan Goins improving her score by three strokes with a 5-over 77. She joined Donovan, making 14 pars on her round.
Aubree Hill made eight pars on her opening nine on her way to an 8-over 80. Although the scorecard was more chaotic on the back nine, she used a pair of birdies to keep her round going in a positive direction.
The final counting score for the Lions came from freshman
Lila Polakowski, who fired a 9-over 81 with a birdie on the par-4 17th to close in strong fashion.
Although her round of 89 did not count toward the team score, freshman
Zoe Shuttlesworth had a highlight to close out her round, making an eagle on the par-5 18th hole.
Up next, the Lions will look to jump back in the top 10 as the event concludes with the final round beginning Tuesday morning.
