SANDESTIN, Fla.. - Piedmont women's golf enjoyed a solid opening round at the Golfweek October Classic in Sandestin, Florida Sunday afternoon.
The Lions fired a pair of rounds in the 70's, led by another outstanding round from
Erin Donovan. However, Piedmont received contributions from the whole team, with an 80 and an 85 as well to finish 29-over par for the day.
Donovan raced out to a fast start, teeing off on the first and firing an even par 36 on her opening nine. A birdie at the par-5 11th put her under par. Although she finished with a 1-over 73, she sits only two strokes behind the leaders with 36 holes to play.
Freshman
Zoe Shuttlesworth provided the other round in the 70's, carding a 7-over 79. Shuttlesworth made a pair of birdies on her round, both coming on the front nine.
Junior
Keegan Goins delivered a solid 8-over 80, highlighted by a roaring start with an even par 36 on her outward nine.
Piedmont's final counting score was an 85 from freshman
Lila Polakowski while two-time USA South Rookie of the Week
Aubree Hill delivered a non-counting 86.
Up next, the Lions will look to build on their strong start as the second round will begin at 7:30 a.m. Monday morning.
