MARS HILL, N.C. - Piedmont men's swimming came away with a split in double dual action, dominating Warren Wilson 171-17 but falling to Mars Hill 158.50-46.50 on Saturday afternoon in North Carolina.
The meet was highlighted by a pair of second-place relay finishes at the beginning and the end.
Starting things off in the 200 medley relay, the team of
Reid Barnes,
Erick Fortner,
Henry Rickman and
Sam Teed delivered a time of 1:43.56, just over five seconds behind the winners from Mars Hill.
Then, in the last race of the event, the team of Teed,
Perry Westbrook,
Leandro Forero and
Baden Stewart also produced a second place finish in the 200 free relay. The group finished with a time of 1:32.91, just over five seconds behind the first place group from Mars Hill.
Individually, Forero delivered a pair of third-place finishes, with a 10:31.65 in the 1000 free and a 5:06.78 in the 500 free.
Fortner also finished third in two races, including the 200 IM in which he finished just one second out of second place. He also placed second in the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.31, just over a second behind the event winner.
Elsewhere,
Reid Barnes placed third in the 50 free and
Preston Allen delivered a third place finish in the 100 fly.
Piedmont's loss to Mars Hill marked the first dual loss of its 2024-25 season and sit at an outstanding 7-1 ahead of the Independent South Conference Meet, scheduled for Feb. 13-15 in Kingsport, Tennessee.
