MISENHEIMER, N.C. - Junior
Jocelyn Maseda found a second half game winner to lift Piedmont women's soccer to a 1-0 win at Pfeiffer on Saturday afternoon.
The Land O Lakes, Florida native scored her first goal of the season, this one off an assist from freshman
Kylin Rothwell in the 65th minute.
As a team, the Lions continued to play their trademark smothering defense, holding the Falcons to just four shots on the day, with two on goal.
Piedmont held a 5-2 edge in shots in the first half and a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks but were unable to find the back of the net.
However, the shot count continued to rise for the Lions in the second half, until Rothwell played a beautiful low through ball up the center that found Maseda, who beat the keeper in a one-on-one situation.
That turned out to be all the Lions needed on Saturday, as the defense held steady in front of junior
Maggie Leger, who earned the start in goal and made a pair of saves.
Up next, the Lions will break for over a week before a road contest at Sewanee scheduled for Monday, September 23 at 6 p.m.
TURNING POINT:
- Rothwell's find to Maseda led to the only goal of the contest in the 65th minute.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Piedmont's defense held Pfeiffer to just four total shot attempts.
- Rothwell delivered her first career assist on the 65th minute game winner.
