CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Piedmont women's tennis will have the chance to win a second consecutive CCS Tournament Title tomorrow after a clinical 5-0 win over Agnes Scott in the semifinal round Friday morning.
It took the Lions just over an hour to put away the Scotties as they lost just one total game in a match that was completed.
For the second consecutive season, it was
Dannie Evans who delivered a clinch in the conference tournament, as the senior won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 to close the door on the match.
Â
Doubles action saw the Lions blitz Agnes Scott from the start, as they lost just one total game across the three lines.
The No. 3 doubles team of
Brooklyn Bolch and
Marion Sloyan rolled to an 8-0 win at No. 3 to put the first point on the board. Then, just a few seconds later,
Dakota Wilkes and
Alyssa McSpadden clinched an 8-0 wn of their own at No. 2.
Â
Moments after that, it was the No. 1 doubles team of CCS Player of the Year
Abbey Grace Venham and CCS All-Conference honoree
Bri Laidman that put the exclamation mark on doubles play, running away from their opponents with an 8-1 victory at the top spot.
Â
Needing just two singles lines to take the match, Piedmont wasted no time in removing all doubt from the outcome.
Minutes before Evans delivered the final win, it was sophomore
Jordan Ballard who delivered a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win of her own to set the stage for the senior Evans.
Â
At the time of the clinch,
Mia Vasher was one game away from a win at No. 5, as she led 6-1, 5-0. Piedmont had also taken the first set at No. 4 and No. 6 singles with
Sarah Row and
Brook Patton while freshman
Kenzie Imsand led 5-4 in the first set at No. 3.
Up next, the Lions will look to win their third conference tournament title in a row and their second in the first two years of the Collegiate Conference of the South. Piedmont will take on the winner of the ongoing semifinal match between No. 2 seed Covenant and No. 3 seed Maryville. Stay tuned to PiedmontLions.com to see who the Lions will play in the final.
