Game 2 Score: Piedmont 11, Wesleyan 0

MACON, Ga. - The Piedmont University softball team blanked the Wolves of Wesleyan in their CCS doubleheader, allowing zero runs across the two contests. Piedmont narrowly escaped Game 1 with the win before winning Game 2 in a five-inning run rule.

GAME 1 - Piedmont 1, Wesleyan 0

It was a battle in the circle for all of the first contest as both Piedmont and Wesleyan struggled to put runs on the board. The Lions scraped across the only run of the contest in the top of the second. Junior Jasmine Lowery led off the inning with a single to left before stealing second and third during the next at-bat. With Lowery safely at third, junior Megan Steinmeyer pushed her across with an RBI sac fly to center. Piedmont threatened a second run in the inning but left the runner stranded at third.

Inside the circle, Steinmeyer allowed just two hits in the first three frames before running into trouble in the fourth. A two-out single combined with a hit-by-pitch put two on with two down and the tying run just two bases away. However, Steinmeyer worked a ground ball to third to end the inning and hold Wesleyan scoreless.

Similar danger arose in the bottom of the sixth after the Wolves strung together back-to-back singles, putting runners on the corners with just one out. Once again, they were unable to capitalize as a ground out to third did not score the runner and a subsequent ground ball to second base ended the inning.

Steinmeyer went all seven innings allowing just seven hits on one strikeout and no runs to earn the win.

GAME 2 - Piedmont 11, Wesleyan 0 (F/5)

The Piedmont offense came to life in the second game of the day, jumping out to a five run lead in the first frame. After the lead off batter grounded out, the Lions strung together five straight singles to score the first two runs of the game. A fielder's choice and one last single from the offense scored three more runs as Piedmont claimed a massive lead without recording an extra base hit.

After batting around in the first inning, freshman Maddi Spieks once again led off the inning, singling to center. Senior Kaitlin Isley and senior Kara Taylor followed with singles of their own and junior Jasmine Lowery added a two RBI double of her own as Piedmont pushed the lead to 7-0.

Another two spot for the Lions in the third moved the score to 9-0 as freshman Taylor Spivey allowed just one hit through the first three frames.

A lead off double from freshman Jordyn Green combined with an RBI single from junior Bailey Davis put Piedmont in run-rule territory in the fourth inning. The offense also added one final insurance run in the fifth to close out the game. Spivey finished all five innings in the circle, allowing no runs on four hits and two strikeouts.
