ORLANDO, Fla. - Piedmont women's tennis kept it rolling on Thursday to close out its Orlando trip, cruising to a pair of shutouts over Crown and Loras.
The Lions began the day with a 9-0 sweep of Crown College before ending it with a 9-0 rout against Loras in the evening.
Match 1: Piedmont 9, Crown 0
In a match that saw singles played before doubles, Piedmont was dominant throughout in the 9-0 win, the team's seventh 9-0 sweep of the season.
Three Lions rolled to 6-0, 6-0 wins as
Drea Robinson at No. 3,
Daisha Thompson at No. 4 and
Brook Patton at No. 2 quickly made it 3-0 in favor of Piedmont.
Kenzie Imsand then dispatched her opponent, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 to put the Lions a match away from clinching. That clinch came from junior
Hollan Rabensdorf, who rolled (6-0, 6-1) at No. 5 to make it 5-0.
Finally, it was
Lizzie Ivey who closed out singles play, cruising 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.
Doubles was more of the same, as the Lions delivered a pair of 8-0 wins and an 8-1 win in those three matches.
Sarah Row and Thompson (8-0) were perfect at No. 2 while Rabensdorf and Robinson (8-0) gave them more of the same at No. 3. Finally, it was Patton and
Dannie Evans who concluded the morning festivities with an 8-1 win at No. 1 to complete the sweep.
Match 2: Piedmont 9, Loras 0
Piedmont closed out the evening and the trip in style, beating a capable Loras team with relative ease in the team's eighth 9-0 sweep of the season.
The Lions were able to start things off in doubles with a pair of easy 8-1 wins around an 8-4 victory to lead 3-0 heading to singles. First, it was the duo of
Dakota Wilkes and
Alyssa McSpadden delivering an 8-1 win at No. 2 before
Abbey Grace Venham and
Bri Laidman did the same at No. 1. Finally, the No. 3 doubles team of
Abby Gayle Moody and
Marion Sloyan were able to win 8-4.
Singles action saw the Lions continue their dominations, winning all six in clinical, two-setters.
First, it was Wilkes, who delivered a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 3 while Laidman provided the clinching win, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5.
With the outcome decided, the Lions did not let up, winning the remaining four matches in straight sets as well. Sloyan did not drop a game (6-0, 6-0) at No. 2.Â
McSpadden continued to add to her win total, rolling 6-0, 6-4 at No. 4. Reigning CCS Player of the Week Venham mirrored McSpadden's win with a dominant first set and held on in the second for a 6-0, 6-4 triumph.Â
Finally, sophomore
Jordan Ballard ended the trip with an exclamation point, rolling (6-2, 6-1) at No. 6 to make it a clean sweep for the match and the day.
Up next, after a 5-1 trip in Orlando, the Lions will return home next Monday, March 18 to host Salisbury at 3 p.m.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Over the course of the day, the Lions had 12 total singles sets in which they did not drop a game.
- Piedmont won four matches in singles by a 6-0, 6-0 margin.
