LaGRANGE, Ga. - The Piedmont women's tennis team ran its winning streak to six matches, breezing past LaGrange 9-0 on Thursday evening in non-conference action.
The Lions saw five freshmen and a sophomore make the trip south and roll in each of the three doubles matches and six singles matches. Piedmont was especially dominant in singles action, losing just one total game across the six lines.
Doubles play began with a pair of 8-0 wins at No. 3 and No. 2 for the Lions, with the No. 3 doubles team of
Lizzie Ivey and reigning CCS Rookie of the Week
Daisha Thompson finishing first, shortly before the No. 2 team of
Drea Robinson and
Abby Gayle Moody polished off an 8-0 win of their own at No. 2.
The Lions were able to complete the doubles sweep as
Brooklyn Bolch and
Olivia Carpenter rolled to an 8-3 win at No. 1.
Needing just two singles lines to take the match, the Lions wasted no time, as Robinson was first to finish with the first five Lions off the court did not drop a game. Shortly after Robinson made it 4-0, fellow rookie Carpenter delivered the clinching win in quick succession.
With the outcome in hand, the Lions saw
Kenzie Imsand, Thompson and Moody roll, 6-0, 6-0, before Bolch closed out the match, winning 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1.
Up next, the Lions will return home and host Birmingham-Southern this Sunday, March 3.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Thompson, Moody, Carpenter, Ivey and Imsand all won 6-0, 6-0 while Bolch dropped just a single game in her match.
