Jordyn Green in the bottom of the seventh.
GAME 1 - Piedmont 2, Bridgewater 1
In a true pitchers duel, Piedmont starter
Riley Ford and Bridgewater starter Mackenzie Cauthorn battled hard to keep their teams in prime position. Ford stranded a total of eight runner through the first two innings including leaving the bases loaded in the first and second. The Lions offense managed to scrape across the first run of the contest without registering a hit. After being hit by a pitch and moved to second on a sacrifice, senior
Kaitlin Isley stole third before scoring on a sacrifice bunt.
Ford continued to battle as the Eagles drove her pitch-count well into the hundreds, finally chasing her from the game in the seventh inning. Entering with the bases loaded and just one out, junior
Carly Forrester struck out the first batter before a walk brought home the tying run.
In the bottom of the seventh,
Jasmine Lowery launched a one-out double into right center field, putting herself in scoring position. Pinch-hitter
Jordyn Green capitalized on the runner in scoring position, smashing a single up the middle and walking off the contest.
GAME 2 - Piedmont 3, Bridgewater 4
Bridgewater opened the scoring in the second game, scoring their first run in the top of the third inning. The Eagles used three straight hits to load the bases with a fielder's choice scoring the first run. Piedmont starter
Megan Steinmeyer then struck out the next two batters to limit the damage to just 1-0.
The Lions answered in the bottom of the fifth, retaking the lead 2-1.
Jordyn Green led off the inning with a single to left before stealing second base. Sophomore
Madi Cronic attempted a sacrifice bunt to move Green to third but the Eagles defense botched the play, throwing the ball away down the first base line. Green scored on the play while Cronic moved to second. After a successful sacrifice bunt that moved Cronic to third, sophomore
Heartly Nepveux flied out to left, scoring Cronic.
The lead was short lived for the Lions. With the bases loaded and two down, Eagles lead-off hitter McKenna Mueller launched a bases-clearing double to left center field, giving Bridgewater a 4-2 lead.
Piedmont sliced the lead in half in the bottom of the sixth, plating a run to make it 4-3. They had a chance to tie the contest but left two stranded on the base paths.
The Lions escaped danger in the top half of the seventh and attempted the comeback in the bottom half but fell just short.
