Season Preview: Women's Basketball

The Piedmont women's basketball team will tip off its 2024-25 season in tournament action in Memphis, Tennessee over the weekend. The Lions will open the season against a familiar non-conference foe in East Texas Baptist on Friday, Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m. before battling host team Rhodes on Saturday at 3 p.m.

  1. The Lions will be looking for their first CCS Conference Championship after winning three times in the GSAC and three more in the USA South.
  2. Piedmont was able to secure its 11th consecutive winning season under the leadership of Head Coach Jamie Purdy.
  3. The Lions bring back three of the four players who were named to the All-CCS Listing a season ago.
  4. That group is headlined by reigning CCS Rookie of the Year Alexandria Willis. In addition, both guard Ashley Scott and forward Andelin Hill return to the fold after impressive 2023-24 campaigns.
  5. Piedmont's longtime conference rival Berea departed the conference in the offseason. However, the two teams will meet in non-conference action at Cave Arena on November 25.

    • In his first season on staff, Buckmire helped Nakiyah Washington eclipse the 1,000 career point mark and become the program's all-time leading scorer. He also helped Ashley Scott deliver a breakout season which saw her earn All-CCS Second Team honors.
    • In his second season, he helped develop Alexandria Willis, who became the program's first ever CCS Rookie of the Year.
