ROME, Ga. - Piedmont women's tennis took on the ITA Regionals over the weekend, fighting through multiple weather delays in the process.
Overall, the Lions were able to complete 10 singles matches and 19 doubles matches over Saturday and Sunday.
Singles play was highlighted by senior
Alyssa McSpadden reaching the third round after wins over Covenant's Estee Verdery (6-1, 6-1) and Berry's Sara Mejia (8-4). In doing so, McSpadden is the first in women's tennis program history to reach the Third Round of the main draw at the ITA Regionals.
Junior
Jordan Ballard also picked up a singles win, cruising 6-0, 6-0 over Covenant's Zoe Giuntoli.
Doubles action saw six different duos pick up victories.
As a seeded team,
Bri Laidman and McSpadden picked up an opening round win 8-4 over Centre's Natalie Black and Kyla Harger.
Ballard and
Hollan Rabensdorf outlasted Covenant's Angel Traylor and Lauren Carr 8-6.
Brooklyn Bolch and
Caroline Morrison won a hard-fought match, 8-6, over Berry's Ella Stevens and Paige Evans while
Sarah Sanabia and
Drea Robinson also won an 8-6 match against Segen Lister and Mackenzie Vordick of Rhodes.
Kameron London and
Amanda Barrett were not to be denied, winning breaker 9-8 (7) against CCS foe Covenant's Verdery and Katie Cummings.
Finally,
Anna Lassiter continued her remarkable comeback, partnering with
Lizzie Ivey to win 8-4 over Berry's Anna Oliver and Kylee Craig to win the consolation side of the B Draw.

- The Lions had three players make the second round of the main singles draw (

- Three out of Piedmont's four doubles teams that entered the main draw advanced to the second round.
