Women's Soccer Falls to Sewanee in Home Opener

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Sewanee 5, Piedmont 2
Records: Piedmont, 0-4-1; Sewanee, 1-1-1

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont women's soccer team was unable to contain an explosive Sewanee offense in a 5-2 loss on a very warm Thursday afternoon at the Walker Athletic Complex.

Playing their first game in front of the home fans at the WAC, the game saw the start of the contest delayed 30 minutes due to lightning while there was another delay midway through the second half.

The Tigers' Lily Reinhardtsen started things off, finishing off a rebound in the 17th minute before Sewanee added two more goals late in the first half.

Piedmont showed some spark out of the halftime break, finding its first goal of the season off a corner kick that was then played from MG GALLARELLI and finished by sophomore SIERRA JUDSON from just in front of the net.

Unfortunately, just as momentum had seemed to flip Piedmont's way, the game was halted due to lightning in the area.

After the restart, Sewanee put the game away with two quick goals, one of which was Reinhardtsen's second of the contest.

In the game's final seconds, sophomore PAIGE KLUBA found the back of the net from far out for her first career goal, which settled the final score at 5-2.

Up next, the Lions will play host to Roanoke on Sunday morning, September 10 at 10:30 a.m.

TURNING POINT:
- Sewanee took control with three first half goals and never looked back.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- 2022 All-CCS performer SIERRA JUDSON provided Piedmont's first goal of the season.
- PAIGE KLUBA added her first career goal, which came in the game's final seconds.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
