BREVARD, N.C. - The Piedmont women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 win on Wednesday afternoon in Brevard.
The Lady Lions cruised to three easy wins in doubles and battled to sweep the singles lines as well.
The No. 3 doubles team of
SARAH ROW and
IMANI VINCENT cruised to an 8-2 win to put the first point of the match on the board. Piedmont then completed the sweep with a pair of easy wins, first from
ABBEY GRACE VENHAM and
ALYSSA MCSPADDENÂ (8-2) at No. 1 and
MARION SLOYAN and
DAKOTA WILKES at No. 3 (8-3).
Piedmont continued its dominant run in singles, winning all six matches with four of the six coming in straight sets.
BRI LAIDMAN made it 4-0 Lions with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 before Vincent delivered the clinch with her first win of the season at No. 1 singles, prevailing 6-3, 6-1.
McSpadden then continued her perfect mark to start the season by battling back after dropping the first set and emerging victorious in a third set match tiebreaker to keep the Tornados off the board.
MIA VASHER also won a hard-fought match, taking a third-set match breaker herself after falling in a second set tiebreaker.Â
A pair of freshmen then closed out the festivities as
SARAH ROW (6-3, 6-3) and
JORDAN BALLARD (6-4, 7-5) won in straight sets to close things out.
Up next, the Lions will remain on the road, traveling to take on Brimingham-Southern this Saturday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m.
