MARS HILL, N.C. - In their second contest of the year, the Piedmont men's swim team fell just short against Division II opponent Mars Hill by a score of 107-96.
The Lions of Mars Hill presented a difficult challenge for Piedmont as the team struggled to find their footing early in the meet.
The 200 yard medley relay team of
PARKER REASON,
ZANE MORGAN,
ELIJAH BENTLEY and
BRANDON RANDALL turned in a time of 1:43.20 for a second place finish.
LEANDRO FORERO followed this by finishing second (10:26.93) in the 1000 yard freestyle directly after.
Piedmont scrapped hard for second place finishes to continue to keep them within striking distance. Freshman
LUKE BORGMANNÂ turned in a time of 23.08 in the 50 yard freestyle to secure second place and finished second in the 100 yard butterfly (58.44).
Sophomore
ERICK FORTNER swam a 2:09.85 in the 200 yard IM for second place and finished just .6 seconds behind first place in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:02.82).
Forero, who started the day hot, won the 100 yard freestyle (51.88) and finished second in the 500 yard freestyle (5:21.69).
Piedmont closed out the day on a win, with
BADEN STEWART,
JON BROWN, Fortner and Borgmann swimming a 1:33.95 in the 200 yard freestyle relay. However, the Lions would fall just short in team point total behind Mars Hill.
Up next, the Lions take a well deserved break for a couple of weeks before returning to action against Salem College & Greensboro College on Saturday, Jan 28.
