Season Recap: Baseball

• The Piedmont University baseball team claimed 18 wins during the 2022 season including nine at the Milkjug.
• Piedmont saw two athletes earn all-conference honors led by first team all-conference selection Carter Ballstadt who was joined by Alex Gonzalez on the west division second team listing.
• Carter Ballstadt had a stellar senior season capped off with multiple awards including All-Region, All-America and Academic All-America honors.

• On opening weekend at the Milkjug, the Lions were able to win two of three contests including an impressive 18-9 win over #7 Birmingham-Southern.
• After trailing by seven through the first four innings, the Piedmont University baseball team pulled off an improbable comeback scoring 18 straight to claim an 18-9 victory over the #7 Panthers.
• The upset was in large part thanks to TYLER ROON's poise on the mound coming in to toss 2.1 innings of clean work and stop the onslaught of the Panthers.

BSC Recap

• After a loss in game one of the doubleheader, Piedmont baseball brought Milkjug Magic back to centerstage at Loudermilk capping off an improbable comeback with a walkoff victory in the 10th inning of game two against Methodist. 
• It looked like the Monarchs were ready to make a repeat of game one with five runs in the second to lead 6-1 and eventually built a 9-3 lead. 
• The improbable comeback for Piedmont came in the eighth inning as the Lions scored six runs on three hits to tie the contest.
• TYLER ROON pitched the ninth and tenth innings with SCOTT LYON helping defensively with a web gem of a double play and Roon produced a 1-2-3 inning in the 10th.
• In the 10th for Piedmont, the top of the order was due with Ellis getting hit by a pitch, Jelley earning a walk and CARTER BALLSTADT becoming the man of the hour driving one to left and bringing in the walk-off game-winning run. 

Methodist Recap

• The Piedmont baseball team honored eight seniors prior to the final home contest of the 2022 season. 
• Brett Loftis concluded his career with the Lions and was recognized as an honorary member of the team as well.
• These seven seniors on the field contributed to 78 victories in total including 33 wins inside the Milkjug. 
• In one of the most impactful moments of the day, Brett Loftis signed off for the final time at Loudermilk Field.
