ATLANTA, Ga. - In a battle against No. 8 Emory, the Piedmont University women's tennis team saw its tournament run end with a 5-0 loss to the Eagles.
At No. 2 doubles,
IMANI VINCENT and
MELISSA GISH took an early 1-0 advantage. The doubles pairing of
DAKOTA WILKES and
ALYSSA MCSPADDEN managed to lead 2-1 at No. 3 but momentum shifted to the Eagles who put the first point on the board with an 8-1 win.
At No. 1,
ABBEY GRACE VENHAM and
RACHEL MARSH battled late to claim another set before falling 8-2 and going down 2-0 overall.
Vincent and Gish were on the court longest in doubles after battling back from being down 7-1. At No. 2, Piedmont won three straight making it 7-4 before ultimately falling 8-4 to give Emory a 3-0 lead after doubles play.Â
Emory took wins at No. 3 and No. 1 singles to earn the sweep. Venham was going toe-to-toe with Emory's Christina Watson at No. 2 as the pair was tied at three when Venham took the advantage 4-3. She fought to the end but dropped the first set 6-4. Four singles lines were left unfinished.Â
The loss finalizes Piedmont's record at 25-5 this season, a program-best mark after winning its first NCAA Tournament match in program history Friday.Â

--The Lady Lions mounted at comeback at No. 2 doubles late, but the Eagles took a 3-0 lead into singles play.Â
