MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Piedmont softball team earned a split in road doubleheader action at Huntingdon on Saturday afternoon in Montgomery, Alabama.

The Lady Lions used an offensive explosion to pull away for a 13-6 win in game one before losing in walk-off fashion in extra innings of game two.

Game 1: Piedmont 13, Huntingdon 6

In a back-and-forth battle where offense was plentiful, the Lady Lions scored nine runs over their last three innings to win going away.

Newcomer MADISON HENRY led the Lions with a monster game, going 4-for-5 with a home run, four RBI and three runs scored. First baseman KARA TAYLOR added three hits and two RBI while DREW GRAHAM and EMMA MCBRAYER each added multi-hit games.

McBrayer also did impressive work in the circle, throwing a complete game to improve to 9-1 on the season.

While the Lady Lions struck first for a run to begin the game, the Hawks responded to take the lead with two runs in the bottom of the frame.

Piedmont turned the tides and flipped the game in the third, taking advantage of a few Huntingdon errors to plate three runs and take the lead for good.

Leading 4-2 going into the fifth, the Lions broke the game wide open as Graham drove home a pair with a double to make it 8-2 in favor of Piedmont. Although Huntingdon was able to claw back into the contest and cut its deficit to 8-5, Piedmont removed all doubt with three more runs to lead 11-5 with only six more outs to get.

Finally, Henry put the icing on the cake in the seventh with her second home run of the season, a two-run shot to make it 13-6 Lady Lions before McBrayer closed the game out with a scoreless seventh.

Game 2: Huntingdon 6, Piedmont (F/8)

Facing a doubleheader sweep with a 4-0 deficit, Huntingdon pulled off a comeback win and handed the Lady Lions their first conference loss in game two.

Piedmont jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings. However, the Hawks put up four runs in the fourth inning to tie the score at 4-4.

From there, the pitching took over as the game was scoreless until the top of the eighth, where the Lady Lions put up a run in the top of the inning before the Hawks walked it off with two runs in the bottom of the frame.

Henry added another hit and an RBI for a five-hit afternoon while Graham had an RBI double for the second straight game.

With Piedmont leading 3-0 in the top of the third, Taylor launched her team-leading third homer of the season,  a solo blast to make it 4-0 Lady Lions. Unfortunately for Piedmont, the offense stalled until the run in the eighth.

Huntingdon made five errors in game two after making six in game one. However, it came through in the clutch with the four-run fourth before coming back once again in the eighth to earn the win.

Up next, the Lady Lions will have another road doubleheader, heading to Brevard next Wednesday, April 13 starting at 1 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
- In game one, Piedmont pulled away late with nine runs over its final three frames.
- In game two, it was the Hawks' offense that exploded late, as they scored four runs in the fourth to tie it and two more in the eighth to win the game.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- MADISON HENRY had five hits for the day including a home run and five RBIs.
- KARA TAYLOR also left the yard and had four hits.
