RALEIGH N.C. – The 14th-ranked Piedmont University softball team started play in the Grand Slam Triangle Softball Tournament on Friday with a pair of emphatic wins to run the Lady Lions' winning-streak to four games.

Piedmont started the day with a back-and-forth slugfest with Alma College, but emerged with a 11-6 victory before making easy work of Denison University in an 8-0 (F/5) contest.

Game 1 – Piedmont 11, Alma 6

Runs were not hard to come by in Piedmont's first game on Friday as the Lady Lions got things started with a pair of runs from Rebakah Stegmayer and DREW GRAHAM after the each reached base via free passes. KARA TAYLOR and MADISON HENRY provided the RBIs in the first frame.

Piedmont went on to hang four runs on the board in the second inning, and did so with just one hit as a pair of walks for MEGAN STEINMEYER and LYNDZI PARTLOW led off the inning. A sacrifice bunt from LEXI CHITWOOD set up Stegmayer for a two-RBI single, followed by Stegmayer and Graham both scoring later in the inning on an error.

Despite the success for Piedmont on offense, the Scots were hanging around after they scored a run in each of the first two innings as well.

The Lady Lions added two more important runs in the top of the third inning, again after back-to-back leadoff walks from EMMA MCBRAYER and KATHLEEN MAIJALA led to each of them reaching home safely. Alma would put together its best inning of offense in the bottom half as the Scots plated three runs, each on bases-loaded walks, to keep things interesting.

Piedmont led 8-5 after three, but again added an insurance run in the fourth after a pair of stolen bases and some trickery on the base paths allowed Graham to score.

Starting pitcher EMMA MCBRAYER worked a 1-2-3 fourth inning to regain some of her momentum, but was pulled in favor of MEGAN STEINMEYER to start the fifth inning. Steinmeyer retired each of the first six batters she faces to settle things down for the Lady Lions defense, helping the team maintain its lead into the seventh inning.

Each team scored a run in the seventh inning, but it wasn't enough for Alma to mount a comeback against the 14th-ranked Lions, who came out on top 11-6.

Game 2 – Piedmont 8, Denison 0 (F/5)

The offense didn't stop for Piedmont after game one as the Lady Lions hung four runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning to get things started on the right note versus the Denison Big Red.

Graham, Taylor, and Partlow each had RBIs in the first inning, allowing Piedmont starter MARTINA MALOCH to return to the circle with a 4-0 lead.

Maloch pitched a five-inning complete game in game two as she allowed four hits and zero walks en route to her second win of the season.

Piedmont enjoyed yet another four-run inning in the third as HANNAH SMITH started the scoring in that frame with an RBI double to score Partlow from second.

Two batters later, Smith and Stegmayer scored on a two-RBI double from Graham to make it 7-0 before Graham eventually scored the decisive eighth run for Piedmont later in the inning after an error.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
 - Rebehkah Stagmayer's hot start continued on Friday as she ended the day 4-for-6 at the plate to go along with five runs scored and three RBIs. She also stole four bases on the day with two in each game.
- MEGAN STEINMEYER was masterful in relief in game one. She earned the save thanks to allowing just two hits and one earned run in her three innings of work.
- DREW GRAHAM was moved up to the second place in the batting order and did not disappoint as she ended Friday 3-for-6 at the plate with five runs, four RBIs, and two stolen bases.
- LYNDZI PARTLOW made the most of her chances on Friday, going 3-for-4 on the day and scoring two runs while adding an RBI.

UP NEXT:
- Piedmont plays twice more in Raleigh on Saturday with games against Pfeiffer University at 10:00 a.m. and against Randolph College at 12:30 p.m.
