Lady Lions Deliver 3-0 Senior Day Rout Over Maryville

Records: Piedmont, 8-4-1 (4-1-1 CCS); Maryville, 8-4-3 (4-1-1 CCS)

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont women's soccer team stepped up and delivered a 3-0 Senior Day rout over Maryville on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Demorest.

The Lady Lions took their sixth consecutive win and second straight by a 3-0 margin, as they scored twice in the first half and added a third insurance goal in the second half to put the game away.

The win marks Piedmont's fourth in a row over the Scots.

Youth and experience alike led the way for Piedmont, as the three goals were scored by three different classes. Freshman Savannah Jerome put away the game-winner in the 28th minute while Madi Gallarelli added on in the 38th and senior Abby Judge converted on a penalty kick in the 78th.

Although the Scots held a 21-13 shot advantage for the game, it was exactly a 7-7 split in shots on goal.

Jerome's 18th minute goal that opened the scoring was set up off a Piedmont corner taken by Kaylee King. After the Scots were unable to clear it away, Jerome was able to put away the game-winner past Maryville goalkeeper Sophie Turner.

Then, just 10 minutes later, the Lady Lions struck again. This time, it was senior Abby Ryan's initial shot that was blocked, leading to a powerful finish by Gallarelli to the top right corner of the net.

Maryville was able to develop a few decent looks early in the second half, but Haylee Dornan was there for all of them, delivering her third consecutive conference home shutout and adding seven more saves.

In the 78th minute, the Lady Lions drew a penalty and on the day she was one of nine seniors honored before the contest, Judge removed all doubt with her second goal of the campaign.

Up next, the Lions will step out of conference and take on Berry on the road next Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
- For the second straight contest, the Lady Lions struck for two first half goals to establish control and never look back.
