Piedmont Storms Past Tornados 79-48 For Eighth Straight Victory

DEMOREST Ga. - In dominating fashion, the Piedmont University women's basketball team claimed its eighth straight win with a 79-48 victory over Brevard. 

The Lady Lions were off to the races in the first quarter building a 16-2 lead over the first five minutes of play. NAKIYAH WASHINGTON banked one from deep to put the Lady Lions in front 22-6 with the game seemingly in hand early.

With a 25-11 lead after the first quarter, Piedmont continued to dominate in the second quarter outscoring Brevard 25-18 to lead 50-29 at the break. 

In the second half, Piedmont still outscored the Tornados in each quarter, but let off the gas after being on pace for a triple-digit performance. The Lady Lions led by as many as 32 midway through the fourth quarter. 

Washington had just two points in the second half as the bench accounted for 21 of the 29 points scored led by COLBY REED draining a pair of 3-pointers. 

Destiny Williams tacked on 20 for Brevard, accounting for nearly half their point total. Only two players posted more than four points in the contest for the Tornados.

Up next, the Lady Lions head to Maryville on Saturday to take on the Scots at 2:00 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
--Piedmont used a 19-4 run to start the contest to build a sizable lead and never trailed in the contest.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--NAKIYAH WASHINGTON led the team with 15 points while adding five rebounds. 
--Three Lady Lions were in double figures with KLAIRE VARNEY adding 13 and LIVIA SKINNER tallying 12 points. 
- Freshman NAE-NAE EADES continued her productive play off the bench, tallying seven points and dishing out three assists 



INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
--Piedmont held Brevard to no more than 18 points in a quarter keeping the Tornados to just eight points in the final 10 minutes.
