KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Piedmont women's tennis rolled to a 9-0 shutout victory in its regular season finale at Johnson Univ. (Tenn.) Monday afternoon in Knoxville.
The Lady Lions did not drop a single game throughout three doubles matches and won three of its six singles lines without losing a game on the way to the sweep.
The win brings their win total for the season to 15 with nine of those coming in 9-0 fashion.
Piedmont has been dominant in doubles all season and it kept up the same strong work Monday, winning all three by an 8-0 score beginning with the outstanding No. 2 doubles team of
MELISSA GISH and
IMANI VINCENT.
RACHEL MARSH then partnered with
KARA LANDSIEDEL to win 8-0 at No. 3 before seniors
MAGGIE MOODY and
MEGAN WALDHEIM concluded the doubles sweep at No. 1.
On the day that she was named USA South Player of the Week for the third time this season, Vincent was perfect (6-0, 6-0) at No. 1 singles to put the Lady Lions within a point of clinching.
The senior Waldheim then capped off an outstanding senior regular season by earning the clinch at No. 2 in a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
Fellow senior Moody kept the shutout going with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 3 before Landsiedel (6-0, 6-0) and Gish (6-0, 6-0) were also perfect in wins at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
Finally, sophomore
ALLISON DEMPSEY stepped into the lineup and closed out the 9-0 win with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at No. 6.
Up next, postseason play begins for the Lady Lions as they are set to play host to Huntingdon this Saturday, April 24 at 11 a.m. at the Burgen Tennis Courts.
