DEMOREST, Ga. – Piedmont College's softball team was firing on all cylinders on Thursday afternoon as the Lady Lions dominated their doubleheader with conference foe LaGrange en route to two lopsided wins.
Only five innings were necessary in each of the two games as Piedmont scored early and scored often to take game one 13-1 and game two 8-0 via run rules. Piedmont scored the final run of the day on a bases-loaded single from
KAYLEE WHITE that gave Piedmont a walk-off win in game two.
After a long delay to get the doubleheader started, LaGrange scored a run just three pitches into the contest after two hits and an error allowed Ivy Grant to come home and score. Despite a hot start, that would end up being the only run of the day for the Panthers.
Piedmont responded with a run in the bottom half of the first inning to knot the game up at one, then blew it open with five runs in the second that set the table for the rest of the afternoon.
KATELYN PERRY led the way for Piedmont once again as she accounted for four hits and six RBIs in the doubleheader, including a big two-RBI single in the second inning of game one that served as the big blow for that inning.
Piedmont scored four times in the third and three times in the fourth to build a comfortable 13-1 lead that allowed senior
MADISON WHITESIDE to come on for an inning of relief to close out the victory. Whiteside worked a clean top off the fifth inning in her first game since 2019 after spending all of the last two years rehabbing an injury.
Game two was much of the same for the Lions as Perry delivered an RBI single in the first inning, then struck for a two-run home run in the second inning following a triple from
KAITLIN ISLEY. Perry's homer again blew the game open and gave Piedmont a 6-0 lead.
The Lady Lions scored once more in the third inning before White's walk-off winner in the fifth inning closed the door on the doubleheader sweep.
MARTINA MALOCH was masterful for Piedmont in game two, allowing just one hit and facing one over the minimum to earn her fourth win of the season. Maloch struck out three in her five innings of work.
