Game 1: Piedmont 6, Emmanuel 0
Two-time reigning USA South Rookie Pitcher of the Week
EMMA MCBRAYER delivered another outstanding performance in the circle, throwing a complete game, and earning her first shutout. McBrayer allowed just three hits and three walks with three strikeouts. The freshman from Powder Springs, Georgia also contributed at the dish, driving home a run out of the cleanup spot in the lineup.
The middle of Piedmont's order provided the damage during game one, as
KATELYN PERRY (3-for-4) and
KARA TAYLOR (2-for-3) combined for 5 hits and three runs scored.
A sac-fly from
MACKENZIE DAVIS drove in Perry for the game's first run, then an error with the bases loaded cost Emmanuel another pair of runs. A hard hit ball by
HANNAH MORGAN to shortstop was bobbled and
KAITLIN ISLEY was safe at second while
HANNAH CALLAWAY and
MADALYN WILLIAMS scored, unearned.
Piedmont went 3-2-1 scoring three in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth. Three straight singles in the fifth inning drove in a run as it was McBrayer sending around Perry to score. Davis added another sac fly an inning after her first to score Taylor. Davis ended the game 0-1 but with a pair of RBI off two sac flies.
Game 2: Piedmont 1, Emmanuel 0
Piedmont was quick to strike in game two with a run in the bottom of the first as Coach Terry Martin opted for the double steal with runners at first and third and managed to send across
HANNAH SMITH.
The lone baserunner Emmanuel placed in the first four innings was on an error in the second.
MARTINA MALOCH was dealing from the circle working 1-2-3 innings in the first, third and fourth. The no-hitter was broken up with an infield single in the top of the fifth, but that was all Emmanuel managed in the frame.
The Lady Lion offense threatened in the bottom of the sixth after a passed ball and an error, but Piedmont was unable to plate a run giving Maloch a one-run lead entering the seventh. Maloch made quick work of Emmanuel once again and closed out the contest for the victory.
Maloch's final line was a complete game allowing just two hits and striking out three.
Perry's offensive outburst continued in game two as she was 3-for-3 with a pair of stolen bases. The Lady Lions totaled five hits with Perry accounting for all but two.
