Lady Lions Take Ninth Straight, Roll Past Agnes Scott Saturday

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont women's basketball team cruised past Agnes Scott, 84-33, on Saturday afternoon in Decatur for its ninth consecutive victory to begin USA South play.

The Lady Lions (11-3, 9-0 USA South) led wire-to-wire for the fourth consecutive contest as four scored in double figures.

Sophomore guard COLBY REED led the way with 17 points while adding five steals, three rebounds and three assists in 23 minutes. Forward MAKAYLA SCHYMANSKI added a career-best 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting.

Joining the duo in double figures were LAUREN SWANSON and BRITTANY DEVANE, each with 10 points off the bench.

Overall, nine different Lady Lions scored in the game.

Piedmont jumped out to a 12-2 lead over the first 4:22 of the game before the Scotties (0-13, 0-13 USA South) responded with a 6-0 run to close the gap to 12-8. However, the Lady Lions used a 9-2 run to close the quarter and took a 21-10 lead into the second on Reed's three-pointer with 1:10 left in the first.

The Lady Lions led by double digits the rest of the way as they held Agnes Scott to just five points in the second quarter.

Piedmont's offensive output picked up with a game-high 27 points in the third quarter.

Up next, the Lady Lions will host LaGrange in its final regular season contest at Cave Arena this season. Tipoff is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 6 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
- Piedmont used a 9-2 run at the end of the first quarter to take a double digit lead and never look back.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- COLBY REED delivered a career-high 17 points and five steals in 23 minutes.
- MAKAYLA SCHYMANSKI had a career-best 15 points in 19 minutes.
