CLINTON, S.C. - The Piedmont women's basketball team battled D-1 Presbyterian in an exhibition contest on Wednesday night in Clinton, South Carolina.
The Lady Lions gained valuable experience against tough competition, holding tough against the Blue Hose, who prevailed, 86-64.
The highlight of the contest for the Lady Lions was a 22-point second quarter in which they outscored Presbyterian, 22-19. However, the Blue Hose were able to take control of the contest, scoring 25 points in the third quarter to build a 20+ point advantage.
In just 16 minutes off the bench, junior
COLBY REED caught fire from beyond the arc, leading Piedmont with 15 points on 5-of-7 from deep. She was joined in double figures by
KLAIRE VARNEY, who added 14 points on three three-pointers, and
HOPE FRANKLIN, who totaled 12 points and eight rebounds in the loss.
As a team, Piedmont connected on 9-of-17 three-pointers and were only outrebounded by one, at 39-38.
Up next, the Lady Lions will return to action after Christmas, as they travel to Indiana to take part in the Amy Hasbrook Memorial Tournament, beginning Wednesday, Dec. 29 with a 4 p.m. contest against Franklin College.
