GAINESVILLE, Ga. – Piedmont University's men's and women's swimming teams took a short road trip on Saturday afternoon for the first action away from home this season. Both squads earned dual victories over Point University while the women ended the day with a split after falling to Brenau.

The Piedmont men battled the Skyhawks from start to finish in the Saturday tilt with the Lions coming out in top with an 111-81 victory. The women cruised past Point by a 118-24 margin, but couldn't keep pace with the Golden Tigers as Brenau earned the victory at home by a score of 103-65.

As they did at home back on October 23 versus Warren Wilson, the Lion men started the day with a victory in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. This time the winning quartet featured ZANE MORGAN, JON BROWN, ERICK FORTNER, and ROSS COPPEDGE as they clocked a 1:44.28, just narrowly edging out Point by two-tenths of a second.

That opening win for Piedmont set the stage for five individual wins on the day, a team-high three of which coming courtesy of freshman LEANDRO FORERO.

Forero earned a pair of individual victories in his collegiate debut a couple of weeks ago and one-upped himself this week with three. His wins came in the 1000 Yard Freestyle, 100 Yard Butterfly, and 500 Yard Freestyle events as he cruised to victory by at least a two-second margin in each race.

Sophomore JON BROWN accounted for the other two individual wins for the men as he brought home first-place accolades in the 200 Yard Individual Medley and the 100 Yard Backstroke. Brown's 1:03.36 time in the backstroke beat Point's Will Kelly to the wall by just under 1.2 seconds.

The Piedmont women did not garner as many wins as the men, but used a steady and consistent performance to earn the split. The first of three Lady Lion wins did not come until the 15th race of the day as sophomore KATHERINE STIGALL took home the win in the 100 Yard Backstoke.

That win was the first of three-in-a-row for the Lady Lions as sophomore LAUREN STONE rode that momentum to a runaway victory in the 500 Yard Freestyle. Freshman MADISON NANCE cashed in in the next event, the 100 Yard Breaststroke, with a 10-second victory over teammate ADRIANA MARTIN.

On top of three wins, the Lady Lions earned six runner-up finishes to help bolster their total team score.

Piedmont swimming gets back into action again in a couple of weeks as the Lions embark on their first invitational event of the year as they head to the William Peace Invite on November 19-20.
