Lady Lions Win 3-0 Over Florida College in Monday Morning Tune Up

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont women's soccer team delivered a 3-0 shutout win over Florida College in a Monday morning nonconference tune up before the team heads to Fayetteville, North Carolina to continue the USA South Conference Tournament this week.

The Lady Lions scored all three goals in the first half as JOANNA TSESMELIS, KAYLEE KING and HAYLEE DORNAN all found the back of the net.

Both Tsesmelis and Dornan tallied their first goals of the season while King scored her fourth of the season to tie GABBIE HAYES for tops on the team.

Piedmont enjoyed a dominant possession and shot advantage throughout, leading 27-8 in total shot attempts.

The game was scoreless through the first 10 plus minutes until the Lady Lions were able to earn a corner kick from MADISON COMER. After Comer's initial corner attempt was cleared away she was able to play a short ball back to Tsesmelis, who found up and fired from the top left corner of the box and sent one beautifully to the top right, past the Falcons goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

The goal for Tsesmelis marked the second of her career and her first since her 2019 freshman campaign.

Florida College was able to hold the Lady Lions off the scoreboard until Dornan, playing as a field player, rocketed a short cross that was touched by King, and ricocheted off the Falcons goalkeeper and into the back of the net to separate the lead for Piedmont to 2-0.

Then, with just under a minute remaining in the first half, it was Dornan's turn to finish one off, as she converted a beautiful header off a corner kick from JADE EDWARDS. The goal was the first in Dornan's career and marked Edwards' fourth assist of the season, good for second on the team.

Sophomore MADI WILSON earned the start in goal for Piedmont and the Loganville, Georgia native made five saves in delivering the shutout.

Up next, the Lady Lions will take on rival Maryville in the USA South Tournament Semifinals. The match will be played this Friday, Nov. 5 and the start time is to be determined in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

TURNING POINT:
- Tsesmelis's early first-half strike proved to be all Piedmont needed in the shutout victory.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Usually a goalkeeper, Dornan showed her versatility Monday, delivering a goal and an assist in the first half to lead the Lady Lions.
