Lady Lions Fall Just Short in USA South Title Game with 66-58 Loss to Berea

BEREA, Ky. – The Piedmont women's basketball team fell just short of winning its fourth consecutive USA South Tournament Championship with a 66-58 loss to Berea on Sunday afternoon.

Playing on the Mountaineers' (25-3) home court, the Lady Lions (19-9) were unable to overcome a difficult shooting game as Berea took the lead in the third quarter and led the entirety of the fourth.

AMARI PRICE closed out her Piedmont career with an outstanding performance, scoring 16 points to go with seven rebounds and seven assists. Fellow senior BRITTANY WALKER added 11 points and seven rebounds.

For the second straight day, PC jumped out to a fast start, leading 14-5 midway through the opening quarter.

However, the Mountaineers scored the final six points of the opening period to claw back into the game early.

The game was back-and-forth in the second quarter as the teams entered the locker room tied at 27 apiece.

Berea started to gain control late in the third, taking a 45-38 lead to the final 10 minutes.

The Lady Lions were unable to mount a rally in the fourth as the Mountaineers held on to earn the NCAA Tournament berth.

The loss snaps Piedmont's season-long 11-game win streak.

TURNING POINT:
- The Mountaineers closed the third quarter on an 8-0 run to gain control of the game heading into crunch time.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- In the final game of her career, AMARI PRICE delivered another outstanding performance, with 16 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
- BRITTANY WALKER pitched in 11 points and seven rebounds.
 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Berea knocked down 23-of-28 free throws while Piedmont shot just 20-of-33
