Price’s Triple-Double Leads Lady Lions Past Maryville in 81-56 Rout

DEMOREST, Ga. – AMARI PRICE recorded her second career triple-double as the Piedmont women's basketball team led wire-to-wire in an 81-56 rout of Maryville on Tuesday night at Cave Arena.
 
Price led the way with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 10 steals. The Hiram, Georgia native's second career triple-double is the first in school history that has included steals.
 
She was joined in double figures by EMILY WILEY and NAKIYAH WASHINGTON, who tallied 13 points each. Sophomore KYLA MICHIENZI added 10 points, going 5-of-6 from the free throw line.
 
The Lady Lions (14-8, 10-3 USA South) established their dominance early, using a 14-2 run midway through the opening quarter to quickly build a double-digit lead. After back-to-back three-pointers from Price and Wiley late in the period, Piedmont led by as many as 16 points.
 
Although the PC offense was stifled slightly in the second quarter, its defense kept the Scots (15-7, 8-5 USA South) from making much of a charge, holding them to nine points in the quarter to take a 37-20 lead into the locker room.
 
Maryville was able to inch its deficit to 13 points twice in the third quarter, but Piedmont immediately answered with a 10-3 run to build its lead back to 20 points.
 
The Lady Lions continued to pour it on early in the fourth quarter, opening the period on an 11-0 to lead 70-42. PC led by as many as 31 points with just over three minutes to play and closed out the dominant home win.
 
Up next, PC will travel to USA South West Division leader Berea on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 2 p,.m.
 
TURNING POINT:
- The Lady Lions controlled the opening tip and led wire-to-wire for the 25-point win.
 
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- AMARI PRICE delivered her second career triple-double, leading the team with 19 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and adding 10 steals.
- Her 10 steals in a game are second in school history since 07-08.
- NAKIYAH WASHINGTON finished with 13 points and nine rebounds.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Lady Lions forced 32 turnovers and scored 34 points off those turnovers.
- Piedmont also knocked down 8-of-21 from beyond the arc with Price, Wiley and Washington knocking down two each.
