First Dual Win in Men’s Swimming History Highlights Fall Finale for Lions

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Piedmont men's and women's swim teams closed out their inaugural fall campaign by battling Division II Mars Hill in the program's first-ever dual meet on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Piedmont men picked up its first dual win in program history, rolling to a 146-83 victory over Mars Hill while the women fell, 154-83.
 
MEN'S SCORE: PIEDMONT 146, MARS HILL 83
 
Competing against the Division II Lions, Piedmont delivered a strong dual debut highlighted by seven individual victories.
 
ROSS COPPEDGE led PC by picking up three individual wins and also helping Piedmont emerge victorious in the 200 medley relay..
 
Coppedge began his day with a win in the 200 free competing against teammate MASON SWANEY. He then took down three other swimmers with a time of 23.05 in the 50 free before capping a strong meet with a win in the 100 free.
 
After a pair of wins in last week's Emmanuel Mid-Season Invite, MICHAEL TAPPLER delivered another solid performance with wins in the 50 and 100 fly while also teaming with three other Lions for a victory in the 200 medley relay.
 
JON BROWN defeated four other swimmers to win in the 50 breast with a time of 30.91 before also taking the title in the 100 breast by almost six seconds.
 
WOMEN'S SCORE: MARS HILL 154, PIEDMONT 83
 
Alhtough the Piedmont women did not come away with any individual wins, LAUREN STONE used a time of 1:01.05 in the 100 free to place third out of seven swimmers.
 
ASHLEY PUGH narrowly missed a win in the 50 breast, coming in .15 seconds behind first.
 
With its first fall campaign in the books, the program will next be in action with Piedmont's first-ever home swim meet, scheduled for Jan. 16 at the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center.
