BREVARD, N.C. – The Piedmont College women's tennis team opened its 2019-20 season with an 8-1 victory at Brevard on Tuesday afternoon.
The Lady Lions (1-0) will carry their 1-0 record into the spring season after sweeping the three doubles matches and taking five of the six singles matches in two sets.
The No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams for PC delivered dominating performances as freshman
IMANI VINCENT and senior
MORGAN BUCHHOLZ rolled to an 8-0 victory at No. 2 while
SAMANTHA LOWRY and
MAGGIE MOODY emerged with an 8-1 win at No. 3.
Piedmont completed the doubles sweep thanks to an 8-6 win from
CAROLINE CONNELLY and
MEGAN WALDHEIM at No. 1.
Leading 3-0 heading into singles action, the Lady Lions rolled to straight-set victories at No. 2 through No. 6 singles as Waldheim, Vincent, Buchholz, Moody and
KARA LANDSIEDEL combined to drop just five games.
The Tornados (0-1) were able to get on the board as Samantha Sepe won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- In her first collegiate match,
IMANI VINCENT did not drop a single game in both her doubles and singles matches.
UP NEXT:
- The Lady Lions will travel to the ITA Regional Championships, hosted by Berry College beginning Friday, Sept. 27 and running through Sunday, Sept. 29.
