MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Piedmont women's soccer team opened its season on Friday with a loss to USA South Athletic Conference opponent Pfeiffer University.
Playing in a non-conference matchup, the Falcons (1-0-0) scored in the 54th minute to take a 1-0 lead and held the lead for the remainder of the contest.
Just over a minute later,
VERONICA CAPPAS was able to fire off a shot, but sailed it wide. Piedmont (0-1-0) managed three more shots in the second half.
The Lady Lions opened the game with four shots in the opening 6:49 while Pfeiffer didn't get its first shot off until the 21st minute.
Both teams came into the game as the conference favorites in their respective divisions. The Falcons will not be able to compete for a conference tournament championship as they are reclassifying to Division III.
Replacing six players with 10 or more starts from the 2018 roster, Piedmont played 22 players with nine being first-year players at PC.
ANYA OLSON was the lone newcomer to start the game.
MIRANDA MCNALLEY recorded three saves in the loss.
ANSLYN STAMPS had a team-high three shots as the Lady Lions managed 12 total for the game. Cappas,
CASSIE KIRK and
KAYLEE KING each had two shots. Cappas, King and
REID JOHNSON had the three Piedmont shots on goal.
