LaGRANGE, Ga. – The Piedmont College softball team dropped a 4-1 decision to Averett University Saturday morning ending the Lady Lions' tournament run at the USA South Spring Sports Festival.
It was a scoreless game until the third inning as neither team was able to manage more than one hit per frame. Zamyiah Mangum capitalized on a bases loaded opportunity in the third inning for a grand slam to distance the Cougars from the Lady Lions.
Piedmont was able to tack on a run in the fifth inning after a

KATLYN ANDRIN. Piedmont managed seven hits, but never more than one in an inning as they were unable to string together anything.
MADISON WHITESIDE took the loss pitching 3.2 innings allowing five hits.
KORY BEST entered to close out the contest pitching the final 2.1 innings allowing just one hit. Best also saw a pair of plate appearances where she recorded two singles.
TURNING POINT:
-- A grand slam in the third inning put momentum on the side of the Cougars as Zamyiah Mangum homered to left.

MADISON GARRETT was 2-for-3 as the designated player as Piedmont totaled seven hits.
