MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The Piedmont College softball team rolled to an easy game two victory to split a road doubleheader at Berry on Monday evening.

The Lady Lions (29-8) surrendered 17 hits and dropped game one, 9-5, before roaring back to take game two, 10-0, in just six innings.

Game 1: Berry 9, Piedmont 5
Â
Piedmont struck in the first inning of game one, taking a 2-0 lead on a passed ball and a wild pitch.
Â
However, the Vikings (26-11) answered back with three runs in the bottom of the third to retake the lead, 3-2.

The Lady Lions rebounded with a three-run inning of their own in the fourth, two of which came on a two-run home run from
HANNAH HOBAN, her team-leading 10th of the season.
Â
For the third straight half inning, the batting team put up three runs, as Berry once again retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth, this time for good,
Â
After PC starter
MELISSA ECKMAN was chased from the game in the fourth, the Vikings tacked on three more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 9-5 lead, which held the rest of the way.

Game 2: Piedmont 10, Berry 0 (F/6)

After Piedmont starter
MADISON WHITESIDE cruised through two scoreless innings to begin the game, the Lady Lions used a two-out rally to jump on the board in the top of the third.

MADISON GARRETT came through with an RBI single to break before a bases-loaded walk from
DREW GRAHAM forced home PC's second run of the frame.
Â
Whiteside set down the Vikings in order one again in the third, allowing the Piedmont offense to quickly go back to work.
Â
The Lady Lions scored three more times in the fourth, with the first coming courtesy of a Berry error and the last two on wild pitches.
Â
PC took advantage of another error to plate an additional run in the fifth before breaking the game open with a four-run sixth, started by
MARIANN KENNISON's leadoff triple and Hoban's RBI double.

Fellow senior
HALEY MCCURRY then drove home two more with a double while
KATLYN ANDRIN capped the scoring with an RBI single to bring in McCurry.
Â
Whiteside improved to 11-1 on the season, firing a complete-game, four-hit shutout.
Â
Up next, Piedmont will take on Salem on Friday, April 26 at 10 a.m. in its first game in LaGrange for the USA South Tournament.

TURNING POINT:Â
- The Vikings scored three times in the bottom of the fourth to retake the lead for good in a back-and-forth game one.
- In game two, the Lady Lions scored in every inning from the third on, culminating with a four-run sixth to put the game away.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:

MARIANN KENNISON went 6-for-8 with four runs scored on the day to lead the Lady Lions at the plate.

HANNAH HOBAN added her team-best 10th home run of the season in game one while adding an RBI double in game two.

MADISON WHITESIDE fired six shutout innings, allowing just four hits to earn her 11th win of the season.

NEWS AND NOTES:
- With both having outstanding days at the plate, Kennison and
REBEKAH STEGMAYER each surpassed the previous school record for runs score in a single season.
- May Alves held the record of 47, set back in 2006. Stegmayer currently stands at 50 runs scored while Kennison is one behind at 49.
