DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont College softball team swept a Wednesday afternoon doubleheader over conference foe Agnes Scott at the Walker Athletic Complex.

The Lady Lions (14-5, 4-0 USA South) scored five times in the bottom of the fifth to win game one by the eight-run rule.

Game 1 Score: Piedmont 8, Agnes Scott 0 (F/5)

After three scoreless innings from MELISSA ECKMAN, the Lady Lions broke through on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning as DREW GRAHAM reached second on an error, stole third and came in to score on a TK SAULS RBI groundout.

Piedmont took advantage of another Agnes Scott (2-16, 0-2 USA South) error in the fourth and plated two more runs on RBI singles from MADISON GARRETT and ANNA LEE STONE.

Then, after another 1-2-3 frame by Eckman in the top of the fifth, PC scored five runs on four hits and two more errors by the Scotties to win 8-0 by the run rule.

MARIANN KENNISON brought home the team's fourth and fifth runs on an RBI single before TAYLOR BROWN doubled home another run.

Finally, HALEY MCCURRY's RBI groundout brought the game to an end with an 8-0 Piedmont victory.

Game 2 Score: Piedmont 4, Agnes Scott 3

The Lady Lions did their damage early in game two, as the first three batters all reached base to give PC an early 2-0 lead.

Stegmayer led off the game with a walk, stole second and came around to score on Kennison's RBI double. Then, Hoban delivered an RBI single to right field to give Piedmont the early edge.

In the bottom of the second, the Lady Lions tacked on another run thanks to an Agnes Scott error.

The top of the order struck again in the third, as Hoban's second consecutive RBI single plated Kennison to give PC a 4-0 lead.

Starting pitcher MADISON WHITESIDE cruised through the early innings, allowing just one hit and no runs through her first five frames.

However, the Scotties rallied to score three times on three hits in the top of the sixth, chasing Whiteside from the game.

Entering with the tying run on first and two outs, Eckman struck out Agnes Scott's Sarah Fox to end the threat.

After the Lady Lions were unable to add any insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth, Eckman retired the Scotties 1-2-3 in the seventh to earn her third save of the season and close out PC's one-run victory.

Up next, Piedmont will have two days off before traveling to Berea for a Saturday doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
