DEMOREST, Ga. – A fourth quarter rally by the Piedmont College women's basketball team lifted the Lady Lions to a 66-62 win over conference foe LaGrange College Wednesday. An
EMILY WILEY layup with nine seconds to go proved to be the game-winner as she fought her way under the basket for the layup while drawing a foul.
With the game tied at 62, Piedmont held the ball for the final possession with 29 seconds on the clock. The Lady Lions worked the clock down then
ASHLYN ELLISON fed the ball in to Wiley who drove the baseline then cut back in the paint and made the contested layup.
The Lady Lions clung to a one-point lead at the half 28-27 after a hard fought first two quarters. In the third, the Panthers outscored Piedmont 23-13 and built a 50-41 lead. The fourth quarter saw the Lady Lions come alive with a 7-1 run to start the period and cut the lead to 53-48.
Piedmont had back-to-back and-one opportunities converted by
KYLA MICHIENZI and
NAKIYAH WASHINGTON as the Lady Lions shot 71% from the line as a whole.
The Lady Lions took the lead on an
ASHLYN ELLISON layup then again on an Ellison 3-pointer, Piedmont's only three of the game. Piedmont led 60-59, tacked on another bucket from
BRITTANY WALKER, but allowed LaGrange to come back and knot the score at 62 all. It was then that Piedmont's freshmen class took control to score the final four points and seal the win.
Up next, the Lady Lions host Covenant Saturday inside Cave Arena with tip-off set for 2 p.m.

ASHLYN ELLISON made Piedmont's lone 3-pointer in the game and made it count, giving Piedmont a 60-59 lead with under 3:00 to play.

NAKIYAH WASHINGTON led Piedmont with 15 points going 5-for-5 from the line with seven rebounds.
