The Piedmont College women's basketball team led wire-to-wire and defeated Agnes Scott, 71-53, on Sunday afternoon in Decatur.

The Lady Lions (12-3, 6-0 USA South) scored the game's first eight points and never looked back, as they established a double-digit lead in the second quarter that held the rest of the way.

AMARI PRICE continued her stellar play, leading all players with 17 points. For the second consecutive game, she finished just shy of a double-double, grabbing nine rebounds while dishing out five assists and only committing a single turnover. The only other Lady Lion to reach double figures was
RACHEL IRBY, who scored 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting.

Piedmont jumped out to a hot start, scoring the first eight points of the contest before the Scotties (0-15, 0-6 USA South) got on the board. The Lady Lions held Agnes Scott to just 15 percent from the field to take a 16-5 lead into the second quarter.

The Scotties were able to cut PC's lead to single digits early in the second period, but the Lady Lions ended the half on a good scoring run to reestablish a comfortable lead at the break. Price was outstanding in the opening half, scoring 10 points to go with five assists and four rebounds.

Piedmont opened the second half on a 19-2 run and took a 28-point lead into the fourth quarter.

The Scotties fought hard in the fourth, outscoring the Lady Lions, 19-9 in the period to make the final score less than a 20-point margin.

Up next, Piedmont will play four USA South home games in the span of eight days, beginning this Wednesday, Jan. 9 against Maryville at 6 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
- Already leading by a comfortable margin, PC's 19-2 run to begin the second half removed all doubt, giving the team a sizeable lead heading into the final minutes.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Price took control of the contest early, scoring a game-high 17 points to go with nine rebounds and five assists.

ASHLYN ELLISON scored six points on 6-of-6 from the free throw line.
- Agnes Scott's Garis Grant tallied 14 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks in the losing effort.

- The team's 6-0 start to USA South play marks the second consecutive year in which it has begun the conference slate with six wins in a row.
