DEMOREST, Ga. – A year after finishing fifth in the USA South West Division with a 3-4 conference record, the Piedmont women's tennis team took down rival Huntingdon College 7-2 to claim the West Division title.
With the win, the Lady Lions finish conference play with a perfect 7-0 record and will be a No. 1 seed after missing the conference tournament last season.
Piedmont took control early and swept doubles to take a 3-0 lead into singles play.
The #3 team of
KARA LANDSIEDEL and
CRYSALIN GLORIA won the first match of the day 8-1 before
MORGAN BUCHHOLZ and
MEGAN WALDHEIM won 8-3 at #1.
The #2 duo of
MAGGIE MOODY and
CAROLINE CONNELLY escaped doubles with an 8-5 win.
The Lady Lions saw similar success in singles and clinched the match after Connelly won 6-4, 7-5 at #2.
Buchholz picked up the first singles win at #1 after cruising to a 6-1, 6-2 win. After Piedmont dropped #5 and #6, the Lady Lions rebounded with wins from Landsiedel at #4 and Waldheim at #5.
Landsiedel won 7-6, 6-4 before Waldheim won 6-4, 6-4.
