LAGRANGE, Ga. – The Piedmont women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to North Carolina Wesleyan Saturday to end the season. The loss comes in USA South semifinal action after claiming a 7-2 win in the quarterfinals over Averett.
The Battling Bishops took a 1-0 lead with a win at #3 doubles, but Piedmont would take the final two decisions in doubles.
MORGAN BUCHHOLZ and
MEGAN WALDHEIM claimed an 8-6 win at #1 while
MAGGIE MOODY and
CAROLINE CONNELLY took an 8-5 win at #2.
N.C. Wesleyan took wins at #6, #5, & #4 in a row to move to a 4-2 advantage but the Lady Lions did not give up. Waldheim claimed a 6-1, 6-4 win at #3 to put Piedmont in contention, but a win by Giulia Zanetti at #2 over Connelly would clinch the match for the Battling Bishops.
To end the match, Buchholz would claim the win at #1 winning 4-6, 6-4, 10-1.
