MARYVILLE, Tn. – The Piedmont College women's basketball team forced double OT at Maryville taking a 76-74 win on the Scots' home court.
CARLIE SHIELDS scored a career-high 24 points to lead the way for the Lady Lions, making five of Piedmont's six 3-pointers in the contest.
The Lady Lions held the lead through the first quarter with a 19-15 advantage after the first 10 minutes of play. Six of Maryville's 15 points in the first quarter came from the charity stripe.
In the second quarter though, the Scots held Piedmont to just seven points, outscoring the Lady Lions 16-7. Maryville took the lead with just under 3:00 till halftime, and used a 6-0 run to end the half to take a 31-26 lead into the break.
Piedmont came out firing out of halftime as Shields banked a deep ball eight seconds into the second half. The Lady Lions used a 7-0 stretch to regain the lead but the Scots would make three free throws to end the quarter leading 47-45.
Maryville had a 10-point lead 58-48 with 6:44 remaining, but Piedmont cut it to seven with 2:58 to play. Piedmont did not allow the Scots another basket in regulation as
CARLIE SHIELDS was once again the one to bank a 3-pointer on a fastbreak with 0:58 to play to tie the contest and force OT.
The first OT period was quiet as the two combined for just 10 points, but the Lady Lions held a 3-point lead until Lauren Biliter drained a 3-pointer with five seconds remaining to tie it up and force double OT. In the second overtime, the Lady Lions took control and held on for the two point victory.
This is the second straight win for Piedmont on the Scots' home court with the last coming in the USA South Championship game a year ago.
Turning Point

CARLIE SHIELDS hit a 3-pointer with 2:38 to play in double OT to give the Lady Lions a four point lead and
AMARI PRICE made an old-fashioned three point play to seal the win in the second overtime.
Standout Performances
--Shields scored 24 points in the contest marking her career-high in points scored, bettering her mark of 23 against Birmingham-Southern last season.
