MONTGOMERY, Ala. – A 20-point game for
BRIDGETTE KELLY boosted the Lady Lion basketball team to a 64-62 victory over Huntingdon College on the road.
Kelly would set up her high scoring game with the opening points of the contest as she knocked down a three with eight and change on the clock. Less than a minute later,
CARLIE SHIELDS would make one from the charity stripe and
DAKOTA SULLENS would get a jumper after a Hawks turnover. Within three minutes, all of Piedmont's seniors were in the points column. PC would continue the scoring trend and close out the first with a 13-point run that lasted just over two minutes. The late quarter run would put Piedmont up 22-11.
Piedmont struggled shooting in the second quarter going 3-15 from the floor. This would set up a comeback from the Hawks that would bleed over into the third quarter. Just over two minutes into the second half, the Hawks had taken the lead. A nine-point run from Huntingdon would give them an eight point advantage with close to four minutes to go in the third.
BRITTANY WALKER and
BRIDGETTE KELLY would hit back-to-back layups in the final two-minutes to come within four of the Hawks.
Shields would start off the fourth quarter for the Lady Lions as she got the layup in the paint to fall with only thirty seconds ticking off the clock. Huntingdon would answer with a six-point run stopped by a three from
BRIDGETTE KELLY. With under three to go and trailing by four,
AMARI PRICE made the long ball fall to come to within one of the Hawks. This would trigger an 11-point run for the Lady Lions to go up by seven with ten seconds left. A last second three would put the Hawks within two but the clock expired with the Lady Lions taking the win 64-62.
Turning Point
--The Lady Lions were tied at 56 with the Hawks with just over two-minutes to play, but PC would go on a seven-point run to take the contest in the last minute.
Standout Performances
--
BRIDGETTE KELLY scored 20 points with four 3-pointers to lead all scorers in the contest.
Inside the Box Score
--PC held the Hawks to just two from three-point land as Huntingdon shot 13% from beyond the arc.
News & Notes
--The Lady Lions tallied 26-points off turnovers as the Hawks had 18 turnovers to Piedmont's eight.

--Piedmont returns to Cave Arena to tip off against the Tornados of Brevard College on January 23 at 6:00 p.m. During the game all of PC's Lady Lions will be awarded the USA South Women's President's Cup.
