LaGrange, GA - The Piedmont College softball team traveled in USA South action for the second time in 2017 falling in the first of two vs. LaGrange College 4-2 before taking the encore 3-1.  

All five of LaGrange's runs on the day came in the 3rd inning of the two games as a pair of two-run home-runs by LC in the first game gave the Panthers a 4-0 lead.  

A two-run double by RAYVEN LAWRENCE in the top of the 5th cut the deficit in half and the Lions had two in scoring position in the 6th with just one out threatening to tie it up.

However, back-to-back outs got the Panthers out of trouble and out of the park with an eventual 4-2 win to hand Piedmont its first conference loss of the season.  

In the second game, a HANNAH HOBAN basehit gave Piedmont the lead 1-0 in the 1st before an error in the 2nd allowed PC to double the margin.

Though the Panthers would get a run back in the 3rd on an error, Piedmont's BECKA ROSS belted a solo home run in the top of the 7th to give breathing room to the visitors who came away with a 3-1 win to force the split.

Turning Point
--A pair of two-run homers by LaGrange in the 3rd inning of the opener proved the difference in the home team's 4-2 win.
--BECKA ROSS' solo shot in the top of the 7th gave Piedmont some breathing room in the 3-1 win to help PC even it up on the day.

Standout Performances
--RAYVEN LAWRENCE had a two-RBI double in the first game of the day in her only at-bat as she is now hitting .385 on the season for PC.
--HANNAH HOBAN went 2-for-4 with a RBI in the second game as she drove in HALEY HIXON in the 1st inning to give Piedmont its first lead in either game.
--MELISSA ECKMAN went all seven in the second game win allowing just three total hits and no earned runs for her 5th win of the season.

Inside the Box Score
--In the first game of the day, neither team picked up a basehit until the bottom of the third when LaGrange's Taylor Tallant sliced a single into right.
--LC would go on to get four runs on five hits including a pair of homers in that same inning.
--The lone run that Eckman allowed in the encore came after an error started off the bottom of the 3rd.

News & Notes
--Piedmont is 12-3 vs. the Panthers in their last 15 meetings dating back to the 2011 campaign but all three of those wins for LaGrange have come in the last four seasons.
