Demorest, GA - The Piedmont College softball team continued to roll in conference play picking up a doubleheader sweep of North Carolina Wesleyan Saturday. The Lady Lions won 2-0 in game one and had to fight back for a 10-7 victory in game two.
The first game was a quick contest taking just over an hour and 15 minutes to play as PC won 2-0. The first run came across in the second inning as
ALLYSON GENTRY singled to drive in
HALEY MCCURRY giving PC the 1-0 advantage.
HANNAH HOBAN would add an insurance run with a homerun that fell just under the scoreboard in left center field making it 2-0 Lady Lions to lead-off the bottom of the third inning.
SARAH WALKER earned the win allowing five hits while striking out nine batters with the complete game outing.
The Battling Bishops jumped out to an early lead in game two with a 1-0 lead after the first with two hits and a sacrifice fly. Piedmont looked to answer in the bottom of the frame but had runners caught stealing twice.
The Lady Lions did score in the second as heads up base running allowed
KORY BEST to steal second and
AUDREY ESAKOFF to steal home tying the game. Best later scored after a strikeout swinging and an error by the catcher giving PC the 2-1 lead.
The Battling Bishops quickly took control of the game in the top of the third scoring five runs on four hits including a three run homerun to right field as NCWC led 6-2.
MELISSA ECKMAN started for the Lady Lions but
SARAH WALKER entered in relief during the third inning and would finish out the contest.
Piedmont scored four runs on six hits in the bottom of the frame to knot it up again and would take the lead in the bottom of the fourth with two more runs on two hits leading 8-6. The Lady Lions again tacked on two more in the sixth and held on for a 10-7 win.

ALLYSON GENTRY with the opportunity for a single to drive in the game-winning run in the first contest.

HANNAH HOBAN doubled to left field in the bottom of the fourth inning of game two to send across the go ahead run as PC took the lead 7-6 and hung on to win.

HANNAH HOBAN was 6-for-7 at the plate with three RBI and a run scored including her first home run of the season.

SARAH WALKER earned the win in both contests pitching the complete game in game one and coming in relief in game two moving to 9-5 this season.
Inside the Box Score
--The Lady Lions were out-hit in game one 5-4 but held on for the 2-0 victory.

--Piedmont is now 10-2 in conference play and has won seven straight in USA South action.
