Piedmont Women Cruise To 78-47 Win Over Agnes Scott

DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont women's basketball team scored 24 points in the second quarter and 23 in the third quarter to take a 78-47 win over Agnes Scott College on Wednesday.

With the win, the Lady Lions move into first place in the USA South West Division.

Piedmont opened Wednesday's conference game with a pair of baskets and held the lead for the remainder of the game. The Lady Lions took a 14-9 lead into the second quarter where they almost doubled their first quarter performance.

The Scotties would cut the lead to three in the first 15 seconds of play, but Piedmont answered back with baskets by RACHEL IRBY and DAKOTA SULLENS. BRIDGETTE KELLY went on to score eight straight points to give Piedmont an 11-point lead. Piedmont continued to outwork Agnes Scott and took a 17-point lead into the break.

PC found similar success in the third quarter and scored 18 points in the final 4:50 to extend its lead to 24 points.

Piedmont opened the final quarter with a 6-0 run to pull ahead by 30 with 8:14 left to play. The Lady Lions went on to close the game with a 7-2 run to take a 31-point win.

Agnes Scott's Garis Grant led all players with 19 points and 15 rebound and three blocks.

Turning Point
-- Leading by five points to start the second quarter, Piedmont outworked the Scotties and led by 17 after the first half.

Standout Performances
-- Kelly had a team-high 13 points while knocking down three 3-pointers.
-- JALEN DAVIS and BRITTANY WALKER each had 10 points.
-- AMARI PRICE had a game-high five steals.

Inside the Box Score
-- All 14 Piedmont players scored at least one point in the win.
-- 13 of the 14 players recorded at least one rebound.
-- The Lady Lions forced 37 turnovers while stealing the ball 21 times.

News & Notes
-- This is the best start for the women's basketball team since the 2014-15 when they started 13-1.

-- The Lady Lions travel to Maryville, Tennessee on Saturday for a neutral site matchup against Averett at 5 p.m.
