Flawless First Half Sends Women's Basketball Past LaGrange 78-31 in the Cave

Box Score Need to Know
Score: Piedmont 78, LaGrange 31
Records: Lady Lions 13-5 (USA South 6-1), Panthers 9-8 (USA South 4-3)
Location: Demorest, Georgia - Cave Arena

Demorest, GA - CARLY SALES connected on a three-point bucket with time expiring to send the Lady Lions into the locker room following a perfect first half as the Piedmont College women's basketball team handled LaGrange College 78-31 in Cave Arena Sunday afternoon.

It was all Piedmont, all the time as the Lady Lions won their ninth contest at home in as many tries with LaGrange only able to connect on three of 18 tries from the field in the first half. LaGrange's only lead of the game came on their opening shot though after a jumper at the 7:04 mark of the 1st, the Panthers would not hit another from the field until 7:02 remained in the 2nd.

BRIANNA BARRETT led the way in the opening half for PC going 3-for-3 from the field with all those tries coming from beyond the three-point arc as Piedmont held a 16-5 lead after the 1st before the advantage ballooned to 32-13 at the half.

To match Sales' buzzer beater at the end of the 2nd, youngster Jalen Davis would step up to knock down a step-back jumper right in front of the Cave Crazies as the time ticked off in the 3rd.  Davis' fist-pump put the crowd back into a game that saw PC lead 59-24 after three.

With the result not in doubt, Piedmont put in another strong 10 minutes in the 4th more than doubling up the visitors' output on the way to another impressive victory in the Cave by 47 points, the largest margin victory for PC in its last 28 games.

 Turning Point
--CARLY SALES' three pointer that hit nothing but net as time expired in the first half said it all for Piedmont who put on a clinic in the opening 20 minutes holding LaGrange to just three total field goals before the break.

Standout Performances

--Piedmont's perimeter shooting with BRIANNA BARRETT, ERIN CLIFFORD, and CARLIE SHIELDS combining to go 10-of-13 from three-point land in the contest.
--JALEN DAVIS' team-high four assists was overshadowed by her step-back jumper that connected as time expired in the 3rd before her fist-pump celebration sent the Cave Crazies into a frenzy.

Inside the Box Score
--Piedmont held LaGrange below 20% shooting for the contest as the Lady Lions have turned up the heat on defense holding their last four opponents to a combined 27% from the floor.
--15 offensive rebounds for the home team led to 17 second-chance points as Piedmont out-rebounded the visitors 45-32.

News & Notes
--The Lady Lions have not lost at home so far this season and only have two home games left this season with Covenant coming to town on February 10.
--A day after PC plays host to the Scots, another set of Scots come to the Cave for the season finale with West Division leader Maryville traveling to PC for a February 11 battle.
--The 31 points is the lowest point total given up by Piedmont since a 129-29 win over Mary Baldwin almost a year ago to the day (Jan. 31, 2016)

Up Next
--As the Lady Lions have enjoyed their time at home the last three games with a trio of wins to improve to 10-0 at the Cave in '16-'17, Piedmont now plays five straight on the road beginning with a 4:00 pm afternoon tip-off in Winston-Salem vs. Salem College.  These two have already met once this season in USA South play with Piedmont winning by 20 at home on December 3, 2016.
