Carter's Bases-Clearing Double Seals Sweep of Lake Forest College

Demorest, GA- In just the second pair of contests at home this season, the Lady Lions improved their home record to 3-1 with a sweep of Lake Forest College Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Lions took game one 6-1 before taking game two 5-1 after some late inning heroics.

Senior LAURA CARTER stepped up when she was needed in game two to break a tie in the sixth inning as she had a bases-clearing double with two outs to make it 4-1. ALLYSON GENTRY then followed suit with a double of her own to drive in Carter making the final 5-1.

Carter was 2-for-3 in the game with three RBI and a run scored while JOSIE COKER was the other Lady Lion to have a multi-hit game, also going 2-for-3.

In game one, the Lady Lions took control early as senior ABBY SMITH set the tone with a double that scored Gentry to put Piedmont up 1-0. The Lady Lions' big inning came early in this one as they scored five in the second inning to put it out of reach for the Foresters. 

Pitching was the key for Piedmont as both SARAH WALKER and MELISSA ECKMAN earned wins Tuesday afternoon after pitching the complete game and giving up just a single run. Walker gave up five hits and struck out six batters while Eckman had six hits against her and struck out four. 

Turning Point
--A five-run second inning put the game out of reach for the Foresters in the first contest of the day. 
--A bases-clearing double by LAURA CARTER in the bottom of the sixth broke the tie and sealed the victory for Piedmont in game two. 

Standout Performances
--SARAH WALKER gave up just one run and five hits on the day while striking out six batters.
--MELISSA ECKMAN also had a stellar day in the circle with just one run given up on six hits and struck out four. 

Inside the Box Score
--The Lady Lions had a combined 18 hits in the doubleheader. 

News & Notes
--MELISSA ECKMAN picked up her first win at home in her career as her record moved to 3-2 overall. 

Up Next
Piedmont will travel to the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Georgia over the weekend as some of the nation's best talent will be participating in the tournament.
