Lady Lions Tie NCAA Era Program-Best 14 Game Win Streak with 79-46 Victory over Methodist

Fayetteville, N.C. - The Piedmont College Lady Lions continue to make history as they tied the NCAA Era program record win streak with their 14th straight victory Saturday in a 79-46 win over Methodist. The Lady Lions remain undefeated in conference play at 13-0 in the USA South with three contests remaining in the regular season.

The Lady Lions took the lead early with a 7-0 run over the first few minutes to take a six point lead with 5:47 to go. A jumper by TAYLOR SWOSZOWSKI made it a seven point lead and Piedmont stretched it out to a nine point lead with just over a minute to go in the period.

The second period was the Lady Lions' best defensive performance as they allowed just seven points while scoring 16. The Monarchs scored just two points from the floor as the remaining five came from the free throw line in the second quarter.

After leading 34-17 at the half, the Lady Lions put up their largest point total in the third quarter with 23 points while also giving up their largest total with 15 points scored by the Monarchs. Piedmont hit three of its five 3-pointers in the third quarter while also going 8-of-10 at the line.

Piedmont led by 22 with 7:08 to play and increased that lead to as many as 35 with just under two minutes to play thanks to a 14-2 run. The Lady Lions have won their last two games by an average of 33.5 points.

MARY KATE RUSHTON had an impressive performance with 11 points and 8 rebounds while going 3-of-7 from 3-point range. Rushton's fellow 4-year seniors LE'SHAUNDA JONES and TAYLOR SWOSZOWSKI also had strong performances with 14 and 13 points, respectively, putting together a strong finish to their careers in the Green and Gold.

Turning Point
--Piedmont held the Monarchs to just a single bucket from the floor in the second quarter and a total of just seven points in the period.

Standout Performances
--MARY KATE RUSHTON scored 11 points in the contest while going 3-of-7 from beyond the arc.
--LE'SHAUNDA JONES led the team with 14 points while TAYLOR SWOSZOWSKI scored 13, her second-best total of the season.

Inside the Box Score
--The Lady Lions shot 72% from the free throw line going 18-of-25, one of their top five performances of the season.

News & Notes
--With the win, the Lady Lions tie the longest winning streak in the program's NCAA Era as Head Coach Jamie Purdy's 2007-08 team won 14 straight to end the regular season and win the GSAC Championship Tournament.
--Piedmont has the chance to set the record with 15 straight victories Sunday on the road at Greensboro.
