#16 Centre Surges in 2nd Half with Three Scores to Defeat PC 4-1 in NCAA Tourney

Need to Know
Score:  Piedmont 1 - #16 Centre 4
Records:  Piedmont 15-7-1 (10-3-1 USA South), Colonels 19-1-2 (7-0-0 SAA)
Location: Danville, Kentucky - Hillside Field

Danville, KY - The Piedmont College women's soccer team fell to hosting #16 Centre College earlier Saturday by a 4-1 scoreline after the Colonels used a three-goal second half to snap a 1-1 tie at the break.

The Colonels scored first on a deflected corner kick in the 30th minute to take a 1-0 lead as Hannah Sirkin put the ball away for the score, her second of 2016.

Despite the misstep on the set piece, Piedmont's CASSIDY REICH answered just eight seconds after play resumed scoring her 11th goal of the season when she crafted a shot over Centre keeper Olivia Alford.

Reich's score completely changed the tone of the contest with PC now standing level once again with the equalizer putting it at one apiece, the same it would stay through halftime.

However, Centre would pick up a big momentum boost of its own when Shannon Murray headed away an Amber Cowell cross in the 47th minute to put the home team back up a goal.  It would be the first of two assists for Cowell though the scored stayed 2-1 until her early service off a deflection in the 64th minute found Alana Hughes behind the PC defense with the Colonel finishing the chance to make it 3-1.

A late shot from distance by Keeghan Francis in the 81st minute set the final line at 4-1 in favor of the nationally ranked Colonels with Piedmont's NCAA defeat finishing their 2016 season.

Turning Point
--A Centre goal in the 64th minute made it a 3-1 game against the Lady Lions who only trailed by a score at that point before Alana Hughes buried a cross from the right flank to double the margin.

Standout Performances
--CASSIDY REICH became just the third different player from Piedmont to have scored in the NCAA Tournament when she curled one over the oncoming Colonels keeper.
--Amber Cowell posted a pair of assists for the home team including one on the eventual gamewinner scored by Shannon Murray.

Inside the Box Score
--This halftime tie was the second time in four appearances for the Lady Lions in the NCAA Tournament as PC was deadlocked nil-nil with Emory back in 2011 before the Eagles scored three in the second half as well.
--Piedmont earned the first corner of the game but Centre would post four in the first half including one in the 30th minute that gave the Colonels their first score.

News & Notes
--The Lady Lions won nine of their final 11 contests in 2016 to post 15 victories on the year.
--Piedmont's showing in the NCAA National Tournament was the second straight trip for the Green and Gold and fourth appearance overall.

--All four appearances came after no trips in the first eight years of PC's full-fledged membership in Division III (since 2003).

Up Next
The loss finishes the 2016 season for Piedmont with the Lady Lions posting a 15-7-1 record overall taking a third USA South Conference Championship in four seasons.
