Lady Lions' Attack Comes Alive in 2nd Half of 2-0 Win Over NC Wesleyan

Need to Know
Score:  Piedmont 2 - NC Wesleyan 0
Records:  Lady Lions 6-0, Bishops 2-3-1
Location: Demorest, Georgia - Walker Athletic Complex

Demorest, GA - In a rematch of last year's USA South quarterfinal matchup for the Piedmont College women's soccer team, the Lady Lions prevailed 2-0 over visiting North Carolina Wesleyan College earlier this afternoon at Walker Athletic Complex.

The Bishops matched the athleticism of Piedmont in the first half, but the momentum clearly shifted for the home team in the early going of the second half with several chances created in the opening minutes after the break. It was a CASSIDY REICH corner in the opening minutes that created havoc again as junior MEGAN HATFIELD headed away the service for a 1-0 lead in the 48th minute.

In the 69th minute, individual flare took over for Piedmont with a great 1v1 move by TORI GILLETT and a through ball that found a streaking ALORA MCCOY with time enough behind the back four to score her first goal of the year.

McCoy's strike on the assist from Gillett gave PC the insurance it needed down the stretch though the defense and keeper MICHAELA GARDNER were solid again earning another shutout, the fifth in six games for PC to start the year.

Turning Point
--Hatfield's header in the 48th put a feather on the opening minutes of the second half for Piedmont as the home team took control following the intermission.

Standout Performances
--MICHAELA GARDNER earns her fifth clean sheet of 2015 in the first six games, all of which have been starts for the senior...Gardner is sporting a paltry 0.18 goals against average this season.
--MEGAN HATFIELD earned her fourth goal of the year in just six games surpassing her season total from 2014 already with still 13 games to play in the regular season.
--CASSIDY REICH also added an assist to her point totals for the year, a team-high 14 on the year with Hatfield four behind in that category.

Inside the Box Score
--Hatfield and Reich are turning into one of the most feared combinations on the attack as the two have combined to either score or assist on 12 of Piedmont's 17 goals this year.
--Of Hatfield's four goals this season, Reich has picked up the assists on all but one, a solo effort by Hatfield to cap a 7-0 win over Agnes Scott in the opener.
--Reich currently leads the team with her six helpers and is also top of the league in that category as well.

News & Notes
--Piedmont's win helps the Lady Lions tie for the best start in the program's NCAA Era (since 2003) after winning their first six of the year, the same feat the 2011 version accomplished on the way to a 17-3-1 season and a conference title.
--In 2011, PC was unbeaten through its first 13 games with a 12-0-1 record.
--A win tomorrow would give Piedmont its first 7-0 start in both the NCAA Era and the Stephen Andrew era (since 2008).
