STORYLINES
-Piedmont fell by 13 in the last matchup between these two
-The Lady Lions are 0-1 in their only USA South postseason appearance
-Ferrum was one of two USA South teams to get a NCAA bid a year ago
-Panthers are 15-4 since the Christmas break

THE COACHES
Piedmont coach Jamie Purdy is looking for a fourth conference title in her 10 years at the helm in Demorest, one which would be her first USA South crown.  Purdy won GSAC titles in 2007, 2008, and 2011 each time winning at least 18 games in those seasons. Under Purdy as a USA South member, Piedmont is 0-4 against the Panthers.

Now in his 10th season leading the Panthers, Head Coach Bryan Harvey is two years removed from a team that went 24-5 earning a national ranking as high as #16 with Ferrum breaking the top 25 for the first time.  A 1994 Roanoke graduate, Harvey led Ferrum to its first NCAA tourney trip in 17 years back in the 2011-12 season as the Panthers knocked off Christopher Newport by nearly 30 points in the USA South Championship Game.  Ferrum has been to three straight NCAA National Tournaments.

SCOUTING FERRUM
The Panthers of Ferrum College finished as the #2 seed in the North Division of the USA South courtesy of a 15-4 record in league play.  Ferrum is one of the best three-point shooting teams in the league hitting on better than 34%, 2nd in that category behind only the Scots of Maryville College.  Jacole Hairston is the name to know for Piedmont fans as the senior is averaging better than 21 points per game and was twice named to the D3Hoops.com National Team of the Week this season.

22 IS NO BUST
Entering the conference tournament, Piedmont sits at 19 wins overall, one shy of a third 20-win season in the last five years.  However, the Lady Lions would have no problem should their win total get to 22 as Piedmont will need to win three games in as many days to take its first USA South championship.

POSTSEASON EXPERIENCE
Jamie Purdy is 3-2 in her last five conference postseason games dating back to the championship run of 2010-11.  This will be Piedmont's second postseason appearance in three years as a USA South member as the Lady Lions fell in last year's quarterfinals to Methodist University.

LAST TIME OUT: V. TOCCOA FALLS COLLEGE (W, 83-34)
Piedmont held Toccoa to just over 21% shooting from the field as the Eagles had only scored four points through the first 15:20 of the contest with PC leading 37-4.  A jumper by Beth Brown made it 37-6, but the contest had largely been decided by that point as the Lady Lions picked up scoring from ten different players in the first half alone.

While Toccoa struggled to get much going offensively, the Lady Lions shot better than 46% on the afternoon connecting on 35% from distance and were solid from the charity stripe hitting on nearly 82%.  PC was led in scoring by BRIDGETTE KELLY and TAYLOR SWOSZOWSKI who each had a dozen as the two combined to hit on 8-of-12 from the field overall.

Kelly also pulled down six rebounds on the day, one behind BRIANNA BARRETT who led the team with her seven boards to go with her team-high seven assists.

NEXT UP FOR PIEDMONT
Should PC win this quarterfinal showdown with the Panthers, the Lady Lions would await the winner of the Maryville v. Averett matchup.  Maryville is the #1 seed out of the South Division while Averett is the #5 seed in the North.
